Helping Pets in Berkshire County

Man, woman & child's best friend is often those furry, four legged creatures tripping you up as you try to leave the house - our pets.  There are a lot of great organizations that assist pets in Berkshire County MA and I thought I'd highlight some of them:

'A Place of For Us' Foster Home for Dogs, 413-528-9581

Bonnie Bassis has been helping shelter dogs for over 12 years now.  She took home her first stray when she found one about to get hit on North St in Pittsfield and got it placed into a caring home. Bonnie set up a foster home for dogs after that, giving them her love and attention until she could find them the right home.  Throughout the years, Bonnie has placed close to 300 dogs with loving families.  Bonnie's goal is to "find them the best home possible".

Bonnie is now on her third Subaru.  She likes Subarus because she can fit as many as (gulp!) 6 dogs in hers at one time!  Which comes in handy for hiking trips on the
Appalachian Trail or visits to her vet in Great Barrington.  Bonnie explains that she does "a lot of bushwacking" and is "always ending up on dirt roads" with her dogs, which is why she feels Subaru's all wheel drive is essential.    Bonnie explains why Subarus are a great dog car here:

Car Pet Barriers like Bonnie's, and other pet accessories, are available at Haddad Subaru Parts Department.

The Berkshire Humane Society, 413-447-7878

The Berkshire Humane Society has been helping animals in the Berkshires for over 19 years. They take in stray dogs, cats,
 bunnies
    and even guinea pigs!

At any given time, they might have as many as 125 pets available for adoption.  Though they have a small staff, they have a huge group of volunteers - all dedicated to taking care of the animals until they find their forever home.

Haddad Subaru, www.haddadsubaru.com, 413-442-1584

Over the past year, Haddad Subaru has been helping dog adoptions at the Berkshire Humane Society by sponsoring a 'Haddad Subaru Dog of the Week' - donating $50 towards the adoption fee when that dog is adopted during their week.  In conjunction with Subaru's 'Share the Love Event' (if you buy or lease a new Subaru by 1/3/2012, Subaru will donate $250  towards your choice of one of five charities; one of the recipients this year is the ASPCA), Haddad Subaru has organized a pet food drive for the Berkshire Humane Society - bring us your canned or dry pet food and we'll deliver it to the Berkshire Humane Society for you.  Small or large, they appreciate any size donation!

We want to fill this new 2012 Subaru WRX with pet food!  Please bring your donation by Dec. 23.  Thank you!
