Compare the 2024 Subaru Ascent

to the 2024 Mazda CX-90

2024 Subaru Ascent vs. 2024 Mazda CX-90 at Haddad Subaru

The Subaru Ascent is the ultimate family vehicle. Affordable, capable, and filled with modern tech, it is a great option for families on a budget who don't want to sacrifice the features they need and want most to make their daily drives comfortable and safe. Many three-row SUVs compete with our loveable Ascent, including the standout Mazda CX-90, which offers similar standard features at a much higher price point. Find out why we choose the Ascent over the CX-90 with our competitive comparison at Haddad Subaru.

Performance

The Subaru Ascent comes standard with a 260-horsepower BOXER® engine paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) and standard symmetrical all-wheel drive. A bargain at an affordable price point. The Mazda CX-90 offers a similarly sized powertrain and an option for a plug-in hybrid engine, but it is much more expensive. Every Ascent can also tow up to 5,000 pounds, while the Mazda CX-90 varies from 3,500 to 5,000 pounds depending on the engine selection.

Standard Features

The Subaru Ascent comes generously equipped with many standard features for thousands of dollars less than the similarly equipped Mazda CX-90. The base model Ascent has an impressive 11.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system loaded with conveniences like wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™. The CX-90 has a standard 10.3-inch infotainment screen that is not touch-responsive and does not have wireless Apple CarPlay or Android Auto on any model.

Safety Technology

When it comes to safety, the 2024 Subaru Ascent and 2024 Mazda CX-90 earn Top Safety Pick+ from the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IHSS) and come with many standard driver assistance and automatic safety features, including automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring, and adaptive cruise control. The Subaru Ascent features the EyeSight™ suite of advanced features that come standard on every model.

Cargo Capacity

Both the Ascent and Mazda CX-90 are three-row SUVs with plenty of room for families and cargo. However, when comparing the dimensions, the Subaru Ascent pulls ahead with more available cargo space and significantly more room in the rear cargo area with all seats occupied. The Ascent offers a 17.8 cubic-foot cargo area behind the third-row seats and up to 75.6 cubic feet with all rows folded flat. The Mazda CX-90 offers a 15.9-cubic-foot cargo hold behind the third row.
