Memorial Day Weekend in Berkshire County: Parades, Marathon, Music, and More!
Memorial Day 2012 is coming up, a time to remember our service men and women who have died in order to keep us free. In honor of them, Berkshire County will be teeming with events on Memorial Day Weekend, Saturday May 26 through Monday May 28. In addition to memorial ceremonies, there will be a marathon, parades, music, and more!
***Parades***
There are several annual ceremonies and parades being held this year in Berkshire County. Pittsfield will hold a parade on Monday May 28 at 10:00 AM. Also at 10 AM, Lanesboro will honor our fallen comrades with a parade, a program of patriotic music and speakers & a gun salute with taps. And finally, the North County mountain town of Savoy has an ambitious agenda on the docket, with a memorial service at 2:00 PM at the Veterans Memorial on Route 116, a parade at 3:00pm and a picnic and bake sale to follow.
***Marathons***
The 3rd Annual Memorial Day Marathon Races will take place on May 26-27, 2012 with the start and finish at the iconic Tanglewood Music Center in the beautiful Berkshires of Western Massachusetts. The weekend will feature The Memorial Day Marathon & 1/2 Marathon, The Berkshires 10K & 5K, The MDM 15K Trail Race, The MDM Trail-Road Challenge, The MDM Kids Run and The MDM Pre-Race Expo at Tanglewood. A portion of the proceeds from the event will benefit the [Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund http://www.fallenheroesfund.org/ ]. ***Music***
If you want a musical experience this upcoming Memorial Day Weekend, Dalton resident Matt Sposato is holding a free (Pre)Memorial Day Bash on Sunday May 27 from 2:00pm until 8:30pm. Located in his backyard on 440 High Street in Dalton, the event will feature CCM artist Jonny Diaz, techno punk-pop band Eleventyseven, and acoustic punk sensation Kevin Schlereth, and the local groups Kardia, Nick Winnard & Dead To Right. In addition to free music and a BBQ, there are numerous fun family activities including a Mega Bounce House, Jousting, Velcro Wall and Obstacle Course!
***And More***
The Chesterwood Antique & Classic Automobile Show in Stockbridge has always been one of the region's most popular events. Car enthusiasts of all ages make a day of it, looking at cars and exploring the historic home, studio, gardens, and woodland walks of America's foremost public sculptor Daniel Chester French, creator of Abraham Lincoln for the Lincoln Memorial. Chesterwood offers breathtaking vistas of the Berkshire Hills that provide a fitting backdrop for the occasion. Also come and enjoy the live music, kid-friendly activities, and local foods from around Berkshire County.

The Bidwell House Museum in the rural town of Monterey will open for the season on Memorial Day. Museum is an elegant Georgian saltbox originally built circa 1750 as a parsonage. Authentically restored, filled with antiques and surrounded by 192 acres of beautiful grounds and hiking trails, the museum tells the story of the early settlement of the Berkshires. The museum is open Thursday through Monday between 11 am and 4 pm from Memorial Day to Columbus Day, with tours on the hour. The grounds are open daily from dawn until dusk for hiking and nature watching.
